SH 46 Project

New Braunfels to Seguin, Texas

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) recently proposed improvements to State Highway 46 (SH 46). The project comes after TxDOT consulted with numerous stakeholders in the area, including Comal and Guadalupe Counties as well as the cities of New Braunfels and Seguin.

The project officially commenced in 2020, with virtual public meetings, an in-person public meeting, and environmental clearance all expected to occur between Winter 2023 and Fall 2024. The first two virtual public meetings have already taken place.

The project aims, in part, to expand Highway 46 from I-35 to I-10 within Comal County and Guadalupe County to reduce congestion. According to TxDOT, the project is also necessary to support anticipated population growth in the region.

TxDOT and its contractors could approach landowners in Comal and Guadalupe Counties near the SH 46 project about purchasing some of the landowners’ property for the project’s completion. Property owners who do not voluntarily sell their land may be confronted with formal condemnation proceedings.
