Embracing the calling to serve others, Gattis not only dedicated himself to the cattle industry but also sought opportunities to advocate for fellow cattle raisers. His involvement with the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) and the Texas Beef Council allowed him to champion the interests of ranchers and promote the beef industry.

As a board chairman of the Texas Beef Council, Gattis plays a pivotal role in representing the state’s ranchers and overseeing the council’s activities. Through Checkoff-funded initiatives, Gattis and his colleagues have made significant strides in creating consumer demand for beef and enhancing the industry’s market share. Their efforts have yielded a more palatable and tender product, backed by cutting-edge research and education.

Gattis’s commitment to service extends beyond Texas, as he also serves the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association through the Federation of State Beef Councils. As part of the Beef Promotion Operating Committee, he contributes to the development of programs that drive promotion, research, and communication efforts in the beef industry.

Recognizing the importance of engaging with younger generations, Gattis actively encourages their involvement in agriculture. He is inspired by their desire to challenge conventions and improve upon existing practices. Gattis believes that agriculture offers a meaningful path for young people seeking a purpose-driven career.

Amidst the urban encroachment that looms over his family’s ranch, Gattis remains resolute. He understands the significance of making tough decisions for the benefit of future generations. While the day may come when they have to part with their land, Gattis is steadfast in his belief that feeding others is a noble profession that will endure.

Through his unwavering dedication to the beef industry and his relentless pursuit of service, Dan Gattis exemplifies the spirit of Texas and the legacy of his ancestors. His passion, leadership, and commitment to the betterment of the industry have made a lasting impact, ensuring a bright future for Texas ranchers and beef lovers alike.
